1.1 : Organizations Working with Employers
Creating an inclusive workplace for people with disabilities can present certain challenges. Organizations sometimes feel alone in facing them. In Quebec, several resources are available to help you.
Sphère Québec
Sphère Québec informs employers about the resources and tools available to promote the hiring and professional integration of people with disabilities. This organization can also refer you to relevant programs and organizations that meet your needs.
Regroupement des organismes spécialisés pour l’emploi des personnes handicapées (ROSEPH)
ROSEPH is a network of 25 organizations across Quebec that specialize in employing people with disabilities. You can consult their member directory to learn more about the organizations active in your region.
These specialized employment organizations support Quebec employers in various ways: 1) Information and awareness sessions for your staff, 2) Job and task analysis, 3) Pre-screening of candidates, 4) Workplace adaptations, 5) Individualized support and on-the-job training for the employee, 6) Assistance in accessing financial compensation measures, if needed, 7) Training for the staff responsible for supervising the employee, 8) Individual employment follow-up for several months and 9) Complete support with your files for key Emploi-Québec programs. Their services are free. Take advantage of them!
Centre de recherche pour l’inclusion des personnes en situation de handicap (CRISPESH)
CRISPESH is a college-level applied research and knowledge transfer center. Its mission is to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities in society by supporting organizations in advancing knowledge and developing and promoting innovative social practices. In addition to offering training and support for employers, it provides access to the INCLUVIS guide and self-assessment tool.
The goal of INCLUVIS is to support Quebec organizations and businesses in developing and evaluating their inclusive policies, action plans, and practices. The guide is intended for organizations of all sizes. INCLUVIS is also helpful for public organizations required to produce an Equal Access to Employment Program or an Annual Action Plan concerning people with disabilities.
The INCLUVIS guide is structured around six main steps:
- Understand the concepts of disability and inclusion
- Identify the success factors for inclusion
- Assess your organization’s progress
- Understand current terminology
- Get informed and take action
- Develop your inclusion policy
The guide also includes a self-assessment tool for Quebec organizations and businesses committed to the path of workplace inclusion for people with disabilities, regardless of their stage of progress. It features 50 questions grouped into five sections:
- Representation of people with disabilities within the organization
- Recruitment and selection
- Onboarding and integration
- Job retention
- Working conditions
For each question, organizations and businesses are invited to list the actions they’ve undertaken. They are then asked to determine whether they are at the stage of appropriation, implementation, planning, or reflection. Organizations can complete the self-assessment tool periodically to track their progress since the beginning of their journey to include people with disabilities in their workplace.
Personalized support is available for organizations that request it, regardless of their current stage.
